  • Mô tả: Incompatibilities based on the functions of the state & the system of states are often thought to give rise to confrontation & war. As a departure from the exclusive characteristics of the state, four models built around different incompatibilities can be constructed: the Geopolitik, Realpolitik, Kapitalpolitik, & Idealpolitik models. These are applied to the nine major powers identified by the Correlates of War project of the U of Michigan (Singer, J. D. & Small, M., The Wages of War. A Statistical Handbook, New York: John Wiley & Sons, 1972) as existing for part or all of the period 1816-1976. The interstate system over this period can be seen as three consecutive systems, where the four models predict conflict behavior in different pairs of major states. All models have some explanatory power, but only one version of the Idealpolitik model captures more than 66.7% of war relations between major states. The results demonstrate as well how the three systems relate to each other in a logical evolution, with only one more step to take, but at the cost of humankind. 4 Tables, 1 Figure. Modified HA.
