  • Mô tả: Twentieth-century immigration to Australia & Canada shows distinct patterns of convergence reflecting the peripheral nature of both societies within the international economy & the increasing governmental exchanges between the two countries. While their earlier peaks of high immigration reveal differentiating features in agricultural expansion & rate of industrialization, & their imposition of entry restrictions contrast strongly, post-1945 patterns are strikingly similar. Policy formulation processes on program intake reveal close borrowing of management techniques, contrasting with the other great country of traditional high intake: the US. Both countries face difficulty with current program implementation, & in response to growing pressure group activity, attempt to provide more postarrival settlement facilities & also meet the demands of the new ethnicity. This preliminary survey compares immigration to Canada & Australia for the period 1900-1980. 2 Tables, 201 References. AA.
