  • Mô tả: inspired in part by scholarship on nationalism in different times and places, recent historians have critically analyzed the nature and operation of nationalism in the confederacy and, to a lesser extent, the union. they have analyzed prominent strands of nationalism such as religion, political ideology, the american revolutionary legacy, and gender identities. international contexts and comparisons have also received considerable attention. although this scholarship has largely focused on cultural dimensions of national identity, some historians have begun to examine state formation and citizenship in both the union and the confederacy. the author predicts that future historians of civil war nationalism will continue to explore established themes such as gender and internationalization; will do more to incorporate marginalized groups such as african americans into the study of nationalism and citizenship; and would benefit from studying nationalism in the union and the confederacy together rather than separately.
