  • Mô tả: In 1944, Myrdal published his work on race relations in the US, An American Dilemma, in which he called the economic situation of blacks in the US pathological. In the intervening years, the US has undergone a series of dramatic and far-reaching changes that have important implications for the economic status of blacks, especially relative to whites. A reassessment is presented of the relative long-term economic progress of black men. The evidence shows that the racial gap in men's wages has narrowed considerably. The driving force behind long-term black economic progress came from schooling. Dramatic improvements in the quality of black education increased the ability of blacks to translate their schooling into higher wages. The historical improvement in the quality of black schooling resulted mainly from Southern black migration to the better schools of the North and from the overall rise in the quality of Southern schools.
