  • Mô tả: The future sustainability of democracy in Egypt is investigated. Consideration of Egypt's current political situation revealed that an overwhelming majority of legislative seats are possessed by the National Democratic Party but that certain political Islamic groups, notably the Muslim Brotherhood, are tacitly permitted to operate by the Egyptian state. Examination of the relations among Egypt's multiple ethnic groups revealed that the nation's major ethnic groups generally tolerate or co-exist peacefully with one another. Although liberal Egyptians have regularly criticized conservative Islamic cultural practices, it is pointed out that Egyptian society is governed by certain contradictions, eg, banning movies that apparently support Zionist ideals & blacklisting journalists who conduct interviews with Israelis. It is then stated that most Egyptians are more concerned with economic development instead of political reform & willing to accept the Egyptian government's & conservative Islamic groups' respective claims that political reform is unnecessary; in fact, it is speculated that these developments could further erode Egyptian democracy.
