  • Mô tả: Scientists produced regionalized time-averaged maps of the most important aquifer contamination problems in the county of Osnabruk, Germany, based on long-term monitoring data from more than 10,000 shallow drinking water wells in the region. The proposed methodology enabled researchers to differentiate local impacts from more ubiquitous contamination with agricultural chemicals. A geographical information system (GIS) is used to store spatial databases of land-use patterns, livestock information, soil data, and meteorological data. The information contained in the GIS was overlain with regionalized aquifer contamination information to allow for the mapping of hazards from the most important aquifer contamination problems in the region.
