  • Mô tả: This chapter provides information on macrolides that are isolated from natural sources. Macrolides have various ring sizes up to 62 rings and exhibit various characters, such as spiroacetalf used macrolides, polyene macrolides, and macropolylides. They consist not only of simple carbocyclic monolactones but also of more complex lactones, such as macropolylides and macrocyclic lactones that contain amino nitrogen, amide nitrogen, an oxazole ring, or a thiazole ring in their skeletons. The classification of the macrolides is based according to ring size and compound type. Macropolylides essentially include macrodiolides, macrotriolides, macrotetrolides, and macropentolides, each containing di, tri, tetra, and penta ester linkages, respectively, in one macrocyclic ring. Many macrolides exhibit interesting biological activities, such as antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, anthelmintic, phytotoxic, insecticidal, antitumor, and immunosuppressive activities. These activities are attributed due to their varied biochemical activities. Actinomycetes produce the largest number of macrolides. The chapter also provides details of natural macrolides by classifying according to each producing organism.
